- Deutsche Telekom units sign their first cross-border VPPAs for a 192-MW Romanian wind farm.
- By late 2025, T-Mobile Czech, CE Colo Czech, and Slovak Telekom will procure 100 GWh annually from Phase One.
- Vifor project’s Phase Two is to add 700 GWh by late 2026, enhancing renewable capacity.
Deutsche Telekom AG’s European units have committed to buying power from a 192-MW wind farm in Romania through cross-border virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs). This marks the first cross-border VPPAs for the Czech Republic and Slovakia companies.
T-Mobile Czech Republic, CE Colo Czech, and Slovak Telekom will purchase 100 GWh of electricity annually from the first phase of the 461-MW Vifor project in Buzau County, Romania. They signed 12-year contracts on Wednesday with Rezolv Energy, backed by Actis, and UK renewables investor Low Carbon, who is executing the project.
The first phase of the Vifor project will involve installing 30 Vestas V162 turbines, with operations starting by the end of 2025. The second phase will add more capacity, providing an additional 700 GWh for corporate buyers. The entire 461-MW complex will reach the whole operation by late 2026.
Rezolv Energy and Low Carbon lead the Vifor project, which signifies a major step in cross-border renewable energy procurement. By securing these VPPAs, Deutsche Telekom’s European units aim to meet sustainability goals and stabilise energy costs.
More European companies are securing cross-border energy deals to meet renewable energy targets. These VPPAs allow them to support renewable energy projects in different regions, diversify their energy portfolios, and reduce reliance on local energy markets.
When complete, the Vifor wind farm will significantly boost Romania’s renewable energy capacity. The first phase will deliver substantial wind power to the Czech and Slovak companies involved. Phase two will enhance corporate access to renewable energy, aligning with broader European Union energy strategies.
T-Mobile Czech Republic, CE Colo Czech, and Slovak Telekom will draw on the Vifor project’s output, supporting their operations with green energy. This move aligns with Deutsche Telekom’s commitment to sustainability and broader corporate environmental strategy.
The Vifor project showcases how cross-border VPPAs facilitate international cooperation in renewable energy. These agreements contribute to corporate sustainability efforts and support regional renewable energy development.
With the Vifor wind farm, Deutsche Telekom AG’s units advance their shift towards greener energy practices. The cross-border VPPAs with Rezolv Energy and Low Carbon demonstrate a forward-thinking approach to energy procurement, setting a precedent for future international renewable energy collaborations.
