Climate change has in recent times had a rather devastating effect on all regions around the world. Cases of rising sea levels, melting polar ice shields and more often are the extreme weather conditions such as flooding, intense heatwaves and drought.
Heavy rainfalls and other extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. For instance, the floods that occurred over the weekend in some regions across Europe and Nigeria. Due to the floods, lives were lost, millions of properties and livelihood were swept.
Several other countries have had a share in the effects of climate change just in the 2nd quarter of 2021. They include:
Gambia: Severe windstorms in the early days of July affected some regions in the country. The affected regions had to remain without electricity supply and water because the storms had left huge destruction on the grid. As a result, citizens had to remain in darkness for over a week folding up businesses.
Morocco: Citizens of Morocco have been experiencing severe heat waves due to adverse weather conditions. As a result, there have been peak demands for water consumption and electricity usage in the country.
Germany: Heavy floods swept through some regions in Germany, leaving over 200,000 households without electricity, properties and infrastructures were lost to the floods.
The above examples are only a meagre per cent of the devastating effect of climate change around the world. There is no better time to take action in reviving the environment (learn more).
To curb climate change, individuals, organisational bodies, political and world leaders must make a conscious effort to adopt processes that reduce climate change. One of which is adopting clean and renewable energy processes. One need not mention the ill effects of fossil fuel usage and the over-arching problems that have emerged through its use.
Renewable energy sources such as solar power, wind power, geothermal, and hydropower are clean and efficient alternatives to fossil fuel energy sources. It is also important to embrace sustainable transport media. Electric vehicles are indeed a sustainable solution to fossil-fuel driven cars as there are no CO2 emissions associated with EVs.
In conclusion, there is no better time than now to embrace sustainable and eco-friendly practices to protect our environment from the devastating effect of climate change.
I am into renewable energy and energy efficiency. I found the above piece of writing quite interesting.
