NERC orders DisCos to disconnect customers who reject meters
- Chairman James Momoh made this known yesterday
- The FG has kicked off the distribution of meters under the NMMP
The Chairman, Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Prof. James Momoh, ordered the Distribution Companies (DisCos) to, disconnect any customer who refuses the installation of meters. The new Order was issued to the respective DisCos.
The directive of the Commission states “Any customer that rejects the installation of a meter on their premises by (Disco) shall not be entitled to supply and must be disconnected by the Disco, and shall only be reconnected to the network after the meter has been installed”. This new Order supersedes all previous Orders on Estimated Billing.
The Federal Government began the implementation of the National Mass Metering Program (NMMP) which involves the distribution of free meters to the consumers. The program targets the distribution of 1 million meters at the initial stage in the country. DisCos including AEDC, PHEDC have begun the implementation of the program with the installation of meters in their respective business areas.
Please NERC should ensure that the free metres comply with the present Tariffs of the consumers they are metering.
This is because EEDC changed my Tariff from R2S to be R2T in April 2020 for reasons best known to them.
How are we sure they will not increase the Tariff further, during the installation of the free, energy metres as it would be very difficult to notice and rectify after the installation.
Thank you Garbiel fo the comment. Please contact your DisCo for further information on your new tariff band reclassification.
