DisCos Blame Poor Supply on GenCos

  • EKEDC and IKEDC blame power outage on GenCos
  • DisCos tender apology to customers

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric (IKEDC) Plc announced via social media that the decrease in electricity supply in their network resulted from a drop in power generation.

According to Eko DisCo, there was a reduction in power generation from an average of 3,700MW to 2,000MW per hour. In addition, the DisCo noted that gas shortages were due to vandalism and the current challenge affecting the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) line from the Egbin Power Plant.

“We apologize to customers for the inconvenience this has caused and assure you that we are working with our generation and transmission partners to ensure that stable supply is achieved as soon as possible,” the statement said.

“We, too, began major network rehabilitation and relief projects within our network two weeks ago, which will significantly improve our services to our valued customers.”

Similarly, Ikeja Electric stated that the power outage is being felt in certain areas of its network as a result of TCN load shedding following a drop in power generation. Iju, Abule Odu, Egbeda, Oregun, Anifowoshe, Ago, Okota, Oke Afa, Ajao, Amuwo, Ikosi, Mende, Ogudu, Bariga, Oworo, Gbagada, and Ilupeju are among the areas affected, according to the DisCo.

“We regret the inconvenience and wish to assure that our technical team is working with other partners in the electricity value chain to improve the situation in the areas,” Ikeja Electric said in a brief statement.
