Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) yesterday, hosted a delegation of the Federal Government’s Adhoc Committee on Electricity Tariff, the National Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to a meeting.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ibadan Disco, John Ayodele assured the labour unions of DisCos commitment to the implementation of the new Service Reflective Tariffs (SRT). He further said the DisCos will ensure proper classification of consumers in the right tariff bands. He also sought the patience and understanding of members of Labour with the implementation process.
The Adhoc Committee was set up by the FG in September 2020. The objective of the Committee is to ensure a viable electricity sector by the provision of electricity to the consumers which are reflective of service, affordable and non-exploitative.
Also in attendance at the meeting was the Deputy Minister of Labour, Festus Keyamo. in his remarks he said the Committee’s objective “is also to ensure that the ordinary consumer is not cheated but is made to pay the actual price for the service being rendered and that is why it is called service reflective tariff,”
