Discovery Green has signed a 20-year renewable energy supply agreement with Glencore Operations South Africa (Pty) Ltd, marking a significant step towards clean energy. Starting in 2027, Discovery Green will supply renewable electricity to Glencore’s Goedgevonden, Tweefontein, and iMpunzi mining complexes. These sites are located near eMalahleni in the Nkangala District. Together, they consume more than 290 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. The shift to renewables will cut emissions, stabilise energy costs, and improve power reliability for Glencore’s operations.
Murray Houston, CEO of Glencore Coal South Africa, stressed the importance of this collaboration. He explained that partnering with Discovery Green is a key part of Glencore’s plan to decarbonise its South African operations.
