Distributed Power Africa (DPA), a subsidiary of Econet Global, has been awarded a contract to deploy solar panels at 15 TotalEnergies service stations across Zimbabwe. This deal is part of TotalEnergies’ plans to deploy solar power across its service stations in Africa. The company sees this vita to achieving its target of creating a portfolio of low-carbon businesses that will account for at least 20 per cent of the conglomerate’s business by 2040.
DPA will design the grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, procure equipment and install the power solutions. DPA will also operate and maintain the solar systems. DPA has already installed and commissioned TotalEnergies service stations in Rusape, Avondale, Emerald Hill, Westgate and Chisipite, while service stations in Victoria Falls, Kwekwe and Msasa are currently being developed. The remaining stations are undergoing a power-needs assessment.
TotalEnergies believes that the deployment of solar panels will reduce the stations’ grid dependence and diesel generator use by as much as 30 per cent and lower operating costs which have risen following the frequent power cuts in Zimbabwe.
