The fifth phase of the 5-GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park’s additional 200 MW has already been linked to the grid by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) ahead of schedule.
Currently, 800 MW of the fifth phase are in use, and work is being done to add the remaining capacity, DEWA announced on Monday. A total of 900 MW are included in the fifth phase, which will be sufficient to power more than 270,000 homes in Dubai.
The solar park’s operational capacity, which now includes photovoltaic solar and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies, has increased to 2,327 MW with the newly commissioned portion. This makes up around 15.7% of Dubai’s 14,817 MW total energy production capacity.
The massive solar park’s sixth phase, totaling 1,800 MW, will start operating in stages between 2024 and 2026. By the end of the decade, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park is expected to produce 5 GW.
