- Rwandan government throws weight behind e-mobility sector
- E-mobility sector grows with increased ease-of-business structure
Rwanda is making progress in its e-mobility industry. Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, is currently experiencing a revolution in its e-mobility sector, and this development is poised at helping the country in its transition towards a green economy and ultimately promoting sustainable development.
One of the Rwandan founders in the e-mobility space, Josh Whale, has expressed that his business was proliferating. Whale, who founded Ampersand in 2016, further reiterated, saying, “We’re putting another 450 motorcycles on the road here for a total of 500, including 60 which will go to Kenya in April. So we’re in this growth phase, and it’s happening.”
The recent developments have come in due time, with Rwanda having set high ranged targets of becoming a green, climate-resilient, and low-carbon economy by 2050. The company is strategically approaching this set target in several ways. Some of which is increasing its energy efficiency, decarbonizing its power sector, and adopting e-mobility.
In 2022, the Rwandan government announced e-mobility as one of the top priorities, with several incentives to aid an increased adoption of e-mobility devices.
