EAG Bioenergy Acquires Northern Ireland Biogas Plant

  • EAG Bioenergy, which is backed by Vesper Infrastructure and OrbeNovo Capital, has acquired a new biogas plant.
  • EAGB said it remains focused on scaling its platform through a combination of organic developments and acquisitions of existing biogas and biomethane plants in the UK and Ireland.

EAG Bioenergy (EAGB), which is backed by Vesper Infrastructure and OrbeNovo Capital, has acquired a new biogas plant, GTG Biogas (Toomebridge) Limited (GTG).

This acquisition of a new, fully operating biogas plant in close proximity to its existing Northern Irish plant aligns with EAGB’s strategy of aggregating high-quality biogas assets within geographic clusters and follows Vesper’s commitment of capital to the Company’s growth plan in October 2024.

The newly acquired facility – which utilises agricultural feedstocks to produce renewable baseload electricity – enhances EAGB’s operational capabilities, increasing its renewable energy output as part of its commitment to driving national decarbonisation and energy security objectives.

The plant has been integrated operationally into EAGB’s existing portfolio of anaerobic digestion biogas and bio fertiliser production sites. EAGB said it remains focused on scaling its platform through a combination of organic developments and acquisitions of existing biogas and biomethane plants in the UK and Ireland.

The company continues to evaluate further M&A opportunities and welcomes engagement with stakeholders to drive sustainable growth across the bioenergy sector.

Chris Kerr, founder & CEO of EAG Bioenergy, commented, “We are delighted to add GTG to the platform and have already started our capital investment program to maintain the best-in-class performance that this plant has seen in the first half of its life. We are actively recruiting commercial and operational staff now to support the growth of EAG and are excited about expanding the asset base over the next 18 months.”
