The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has signed an agreement with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Niger State Government to develop wind energy in Nigeria. Bridge Synergy, an international consultancy firm, facilitated the collaboration agreement.
The Governor of Niger State, Umar Bago, the ECN Director-General, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi and a representative of GWEC’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Backwell, signed the agreement on the sidelines of the ongoing COP28 in Dubai.
The three organisations will collaborate to promote wind energy development under the agreement. They will establish a Joint Implementation Committee on Renewable Energy Development consisting of representatives of all the entities to fulfil the terms of the deal. ECN will serve as the implementing agency, while GWEC will provide research and analysis on wind power development in Niger State.
