German clean energy company ecoligo has just deployed a floating solar power plant at the Rift Valley Roses flower farm. The plant, which was announced some months back, is now operational. The plant has a capacity of 69 kWp and will supply power to the flower farm, located near Lake Naivasha north of Nairobi. The floating solar plant adds to the 75 kWp solar rooftop system installed on the farm’s buildings in 2019.
According to the developer, the two solar photovoltaic systems will reduce the farm’s carbon emissions by 136 tonnes annually. It will also reduce the farm’s de[pendence on the grid as solar now provides over 60 per cent of the farm’s energy demands.
The floating solar power plant was fully financed by ecoligo via crowd investing. ecoligo service model is one such that private investors can invest in sustainable projects and earn profits (of up to 7% per year) while also benefitting the planet. The project was also supported by the German government’s ‘Renewable Energy Solutions’ and ‘German Energy Solutions Initiative’ programmes.
The Renewable Energy Solutions programme support companies to acquire and install clean energy technologies. The German Energy Solutions Initiative supports the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions.
