EDF Renewables has stated that the 60MW Timna solar park in Israel’s Arava Valley has come online. The power plant is sited at the Timna copper mines in the country’s south and comprise 154,000 bifacial solar panels.
EDF was awarded the project’s tender in 2016, and it will operate the PV plant for 25 years. The project ties into EDF’s target of increasing its renewable energy capacity from 28 GW to 60 GW by 2030. The project also supports Israel’s target of increasing solar energy contribution to the energy mix to 30% by 2030.
EDF currently maintains and operates 20 solar parks in Israel with a cumulative capacity of roughly 390 MWp. The company is, however, constructing additional 14 projects, including floating PV plants.
