- Wärtsilä is set to deploy energy storage systems for two projects in England.
- The company will also install two 50MW storage systems for two other projects.
Finnish company Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract to supply 100 MW/200 MWh of energy storage systems for projects in England’s West Midlands. EDF Renewables is developing the projects.
Wärtsilä announced that its batteries would support the roll-out of Pivot Power’s Energy Superhub model at two sites in Coventry and Sandwell. The energy storage systems are set to facilitate the integration and adoption of renewable energy on the grid. Construction is set to begin at Sandwell in Q4 this year and at Coventry in Q12 022.
Wärtsilä is already set to install 50MW of energy storage for the Energy Superhub Oxford (ESO) and another 50MW in Kemsley, Kent. The ESO project will comprise the largest lithium-ion and vanadium-flow hybrid grid-scale energy storage system in the world. The project is set to be deployed in partnership with Invinity Energy Systems and will support developing a high-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging network.
