- The Innoson CEO called for government support to expand CNG conversion centres.
- He says conversion can be done at N300,000 per vehicle with an initial investment.
The Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Limited (IVM), Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma, has disclosed that Edo State has more Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) driven vehicles compared to other states in Nigeria. The automobile expert’s assertion was based on his acquaintance with industry trends.
He stated that Edo State has the lead in the country’s push for cheaper mass transportation for citizens by deploying compressed natural gas (CNG) driven vehicles, including buses, than any state in the country. Chukwuma said that his company could bring about seamless CNG conversions and create jobs around Nigeria with support from the Federal Government.
He said, “If the Federal Government wants CNG buses cheaper, give us support so we can introduce conversion centres and open stations. We can convert at N300,000 per bus for initial investment. The Federal Government should give us initial support to localise it now. We need support to expand capacity. Our present capacity is for the production of 30,000 vehicles per annum. We are going to help people convert their vehicles and create jobs.”
