- Subsidiary begins seeking permits for 15.2 GW offshore projects.
An offshore partnership shared 50/50 by EDP Renewables SA, Ocean Winds, and Engie SA has revealed that it has officially launched a Brazilian subsidiary. The subsidiary, named OW Brasil, is now seeking environmental permits from local regulator IBAMA for 15.2 GW of offshore wind projects.
The entity, which was formerly known as Ventos de Atlantico, had in December 2020, asked for the go-ahead for the Vento Tupi (1 GW), Maral (2 GW), Ventos do Atlantico (5GW), Tramandai offshore (700 MW), and Ventos do Sul (6.5 GW) projects.
“The development of this new sector of activity in Brazil is an important opportunity to meet the growing energy demand, develop green hydrogen projects, diversify the energy matrix, and thus ensure the country’s energy security with a renewable source that has a competitive cost for the consumer compared to fossil sources,” said OW CEO Bautista Rodriguez.
