- EDP’s CEO highlights Europe’s struggle with executing subsidised energy projects at Davos.
- D’Andrade emphasises challenges in green hydrogen, citing cumbersome paperwork in Europe.
Miguel Stilwell D’Andrade, CEO of Energias de Portugal (EDP), spoke at Davos, highlighting Europe’s struggle with executing subsidised energy projects. He highlighted the gap between the European Commission’s vision and national governments’ implementation. D’Andrade focused on the challenges of green hydrogen, citing the cumbersome paperwork in Europe compared to the more efficient US system and the need for streamlined processes.
Portugal aims to be a major green hydrogen producer. EDP has started a hydrogen project in Brazil and plans a plant in Sines, near Lisbon, with over 90 per cent of investments in onshore wind and solar by 2026. D’Andrade expressed scepticism about the European Union’s 2030 green hydrogen targets, emphasising slow progress in capacity expansion.
