  • EEDC comences mass metering in Umuahia.
  • EEDC targets the installation of up to 15,000 meters by the end of the year.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has commenced mass metering of its customers in Umuahia, Abia State. The metering is being carried out under the National Mass Metering Programme. This initiative of the federal government aims to deploy about 6.5 million meters to close the metering deficit by 2023.

Consumers being metered expressed delight and satisfaction that they were finally metered after years of paying estimated electricity bills. The exercise is being seen as a response to a recent summon of the EEDC by the Abia State House of Assembly over the estimated billing.

Mr Ozoeze Onyebuchi, the Network Manager EEDC Umuahia, noted that the exercise is part of the EEDC’s commitment to meeting all of its customers in Umuahia and its franchise areas in the southeast. Onyebuchi noted that the EEDC targets the metering of between ten to fifteen thousand households before the end of 2021.
