EF Motors Reveals Plan for 40,000 EV Plant in Imo State

  • EF Motors will create 5,000 direct jobs at its Imo EV plant, producing 40,000 hybrid cars annually from Q1 2026.
  • The company will offer affordable hybrids, nationwide charging stations, and local engineer training via its partnership with BCBL.

EF Motors Limited, a subsidiary of EF Network Limited, plans to create 5,000 direct jobs and over 20,000 indirect positions with a new electric vehicle assembly plant in Imo State.

The company, in partnership with Zhejiang Pukao New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd., a Chinese firm, will begin assembling hybrid electric cars in the first quarter of 2026. The plant, located on a 30-hectare site, will produce more than 40,000 vehicles annually in its first phase, with output expected to reach 100,000 cars per year by 2028.

Gideon Egbuchulam, chairman of EF Motors, announced the plan at the Lagos International Trade Fair, held at Tafawa Balewa Square. In addition, he said the Orca and Panda models, designed for families and taxi operators, combine electric and fuel-powered engines, offering a total range of up to 385 kilometres. “Users can save between N10,000 and N20,000 daily in fuel costs,” he added.

Chidi Success, Director of Business Development, said the company will pass on Federal Government incentives, including tax waivers, to consumers, making the vehicles more affordable. EF Motors will also build public charging stations nationwide, powered by both solar and grid electricity, and provide after-sales services, spare parts, and repair support across Nigeria.

Shela Lin, sales manager at technical partner BCBL, stated that the company will provide technology, maintenance support, and train local engineers. She added that the partnership aims to transfer technology fully and support Nigeria’s long-term goal of a sustainable automotive industry.
