Egypt and Greece will tomorrow sign a preliminary agreement on electricity interconnection between both countries. The MoU aims to increase cross-border electricity trade and renewable energy development between Africa and Europe; It is the first of its kind agreement between both continents. The agreement will further the prospects of integrating the interconnection project into the European Union’s Projects of Common Interest (PCI) category,
Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker and his Greecian counterpart, Kostas Skrekas, will sign the historic agreement tomorrow, Thursday, in Athens, Greece. The foundations for the project first came into play during the visit of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Cairo in June, during which both countries discussed plans for connecting both continents via an underwater electricity submarine cable.
