- Egypt congratulates Uganda on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.
- Egypt has been of significant support to Uganda’s energy sector.
Egypt’s Ambassador, Ashraf Swailem, has donated the Busia solar power plant to Uganda’s top officials. The donation took place on the occasion of a grand ceremony organised by the Ugandan government to mark the country’s Independence.
According to Kampala reporters, Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga, Minister of energy and Mineral Resources, Ruth Sentamu and a representative of Minister of State for Higher education, John Muyungu were in attendance.
At the ceremony, the Ugandan officials commended Egypt for its support in Ugandan’s energy sector. They urged for more cooperation with the country in other aspects of their economy.
Ambassador Swailem emphasised that Egypt’s support for the solar project in Uganda comes from a belief in the importance of renewable energy to face the repercussions of climate change in Africa. This, he explained, coincides with Egypt’s presidency of the twenty-seventh summit of the UN Conference on Climate Change “COP27”, which Sharm El-Sheikh will host next November.
