Egypt and Jordan are set to sign a framework agreement to increase the capacities of the electricity interconnection project between both countries. In a note by the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity, the deal was reached in a meeting of the Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee.
Egypt’s electricity minister, Mohamed Shaker, met with Jordan’s energy minister, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, to discuss ways to support and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in electricity and renewable energy.
During the meeting, Shaker underlined the interest that the electricity and renewable energy sector attach to electricity interconnection projects for Egypt to become a regional energy exchange centre with Europe, Arab and African countries. Shaker explained that Egypt is actively participating in all regional electricity interconnection projects, as it is electrically connected with neighbouring countries such as Jordan.
Shaker referred to the studio of the electricity interconnection in the south towards the African continent to benefit from the enormous potential of renewable energies in Africa. He stressed the interest in the electricity connection with Cyprus and Greece so that Egypt represents an energy bridge between Africa and Europe and benefits all parties.
