- Egypt to experience an uptake in renewables capacity.
According to the executive chairman of the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority, Mohammed El Khayat, about 700MW of new clean energy capacity will be added to the country’s national power grid in 2022. He also highlighted ongoing projects in the country, stating that with the current plans, green energy capacity will be in excess of 10GW by 2024.
According to the Chairman, renewable energy plays an important role in the company’s plan towards achieving and attaining sustainable development by 2030. Therefore, the adoption of nascent technologies for the production of ammonia and green hydrogen is expected to chart a course of unprecedented economic and financial opportunities for investors in the country’s green energy production sector. Egypt’s various green energy projects amount to approximately 24TWh, coming from biofuels, solar, hydro and wind sources.
