- Sungrow is set to supply equipment for an off-grid system at an Egyptian Gold mine.
- The solar-plus-storage plant will be the largest deployed at a mine site.
- Juwi and Giza Systems will install the system.
China’s Sungrow Power has stated that it will supply the equipment for a 36MW off-grid solar plus 7.5MW battery storage capacity at an Egyptian gold mine. In addition, Sungrow will deliver its 1,500V 6.25MW photovoltaic (PV) inverter solution and its integrated energy storage system power by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
German renewable energy company Juwi AG placed the order. It will install the off-grid solar plus storage system alongside Cairo-based general contractor Giza Systems at the Sukari gold mine. Sungrow stated that this project would become the largest solar-plus-storage plant installed at a mine site when completed.
The Egyptian government and Centamin operate the Sukari mine. The system is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2022.
