Electricity has finally returned to Ekuku-Agbor and neighbouring communities in the Ika South local government area of Delta State after a 15-year blackout. Completing a new sub-station has ended years of power deprivation for Ekuku-Agbor, Obi-Agbor, Egbudu Akan, and several surrounding areas.
Delta State Governor Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Ika South local government chairman Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior was crucial in making this long-awaited power restoration a reality. Residents celebrated the news joyfully and thanked both leaders for their efforts.
Engr. Ehiwarior, who served as commissioner for Power and Energy until March 2023, initiated steps to restore electricity shortly after taking office. Despite his resignation, he continued to advocate for the project, leading to the state government’s decision to award a contract to revitalise the Ekuku-Agbor power substation.
Community leaders, including Chief P. C. Aliemeke and Mr. Simon Okocha, president-general of Ekuku-Agbor, expressed their relief and excitement at witnessing this historic moment after years of disappointment. They thanked Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to the community and said their confidence in the state government has been renewed.
With the restoration of electricity, local economic activities are expected to flourish once again in Ekuku-Agbor and adjacent communities, revitalizing the region and improving the quality of life for residents.
