Electricity Restored in Kano as KEDCO Strike Ends

  • Workers at the Kano Electricity Distribution Company have suspended their strike and restored electricity supply across Kano and other franchise areas.
  • The suspension followed negotiations involving labour unions, government agencies, and KEDCO’s core investors.

The striking workers of Kano Electricity Distribution Company have suspended their industrial action and restored electricity supply to Kano and other franchise areas.

In addition, members of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies and the National Union of Electricity Employees began an indefinite strike on Wednesday, January 21, over alleged poor working conditions. The action followed the failure of KEDCO management to meet the workers’ demands before the Tuesday, January 20 deadline.

In a statement issued on Saturday, January 24, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, said the strike ended after productive engagements and concrete resolutions by all parties. He acknowledged the role of the Nigerian Labour Congress, the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Future Energies Africa, and the Kano State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy in resolving the dispute.

With the suspension of the strike, KEDCO has resumed normal operations across all service areas. The company assured customers of its commitment to reliable and efficient electricity supply. KEDCO also thanked customers for their patience during the three-day outage and pledged to improve service delivery and maintain harmonious labour relations.
