Two Iranian electricity transmission towers have exploded in Iran. No further details have been released on the attack. News agencies are currently reporting that two towers located at Mersad to Diyala near Lake Hamrin have collapsed. These towers supply electricity from Iran to Iraq.
Iraq’s electricity network has been the target of terrorist attacks in recent days. The Spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, stated that the electricity transmission lines from Iran, especially in Diyala province, were the target of sabotage attacks. According to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, more than 70 electricity towers have been attacked in just ten days and 15 towers totalling 400 million Iraqi dinars (nearly $ 300,000) have been damaged.
