One of California’s biggest green hydrogen reactors will be built and run by Element Resources Inc. with an initial capacity of around 20,000 tonnes per year for distribution to end consumers in the greater Los Angeles area.
The plant will be built in the City of Lancaster, fewer than 100 miles from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the business announced on Tuesday. Solar energy will be used at the location to power the electrolysers.
The first phase of the project will include the addition of the 20,000-tonne-per-year capacity. The details of the future phases were not provided.
In addition to the 250 positions that would become available during construction, operation is anticipated to start in early 2025, resulting in the creation of 36 permanent jobs.
