British renewable developer, Elements Green, has revealed plans for the construction of an 800 MW/1,000 MW DC solar park with battery energy storage. This will be built in the East Midlands of England. The firm stated that they intend to open consultations on the proposal early next year.
The company stated that the Great North Road Solar Park is to be installed northwest of Newark-on-Trent, in Nottinghamshire and will connect to an existing National Grid substation. Also, it intends to hold community sessions to present and discuss its proposal, which is in the early development stages. The solar-plus-storage complex is expected to supply green electricity to around 400,000 local homes per year once in operation.
Furthermore, Elements Green has some 7 GW of projects under development. The firm said it is working to determine the most appropriate areas for the solar panels and associated infrastructure across the available land. Under an indicative project timeline, the company will submit a Development Consent Order (DCO). Also, the UK Planning Inspectorate is in the spring of 2025, anticipating construction to begin in 2027. According to the statement, the proposal has been classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP).
