EMSTEEL, Yellow Door Partner for UAE’s Industrial Solar Rooftop Project

  • EMSTEEL Group and Yellow Door Energy are building the UAE’s largest industrial solar rooftop project, a 31.5 MWp system to power EMSTEEL’s facilities.
  • The project will cover 40 roofs in Abu Dhabi’s ICAD 1, supporting EMSTEEL’s decarbonisation goals and the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 target.

EMSTEEL Group has partnered with Yellow Door Energy to develop the UAE’s largest industrial solar rooftop project. The 31.5-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar system will power EMSTEEL’s facilities with renewable energy, supporting its decarbonisation strategy and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 goal.

Under the agreement, Yellow Door Energy will finance, build, own, operate, and maintain the solar installations. The project will span 40 EMSTEEL roofs in ICAD 1, Abu Dhabi, incorporating rooftop and carport solar panels. High-efficiency bifacial panels will enhance clean energy production.

Once completed, the project will generate approximately 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually. Over 25 years, it will cut CO₂ emissions by around 16,000 metric tons annually. EMSTEEL will fully utilise renewable electricity, reducing energy costs and lowering its carbon footprint.

EMSTEEL Group CEO, Engineer Saeed Ghumran Saeed Al Remeithi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability. He emphasised that integrating on-site solar power strengthens EMSTEEL’s leadership in industrial sustainability and advances the UAE’s clean energy ambitions.

Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy, highlighted the benefits of the solar lease agreement. He stated that the 31.5 MWp project will help EMSTEEL transition to clean energy while reducing costs. He also underscored the project’s role in demonstrating solar power’s potential for the UAE’s industrial sector.

Construction will begin in 2025 and be completed in 2026. Yellow Door Energy will oversee the entire process, enabling EMSTEEL to harness clean energy without upfront investment or operational risks.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy, EMSTEEL aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% in its Steel Business Unit and 30% in its Cement Business Unit by 2030, using 2019 as the baseline. The company remains committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
