The Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) has launched a tender for the construction of five hybrid solar mini-grids plus storage in the provinces of Zambezia and Nampula in Mozambique. The mini-grids will have capacities ranging from 75 to 230 kWp.

The hybrid systems will be paired with diesel generators of capacities between 45 and 120 kVa. The mini-grid systems will be fitted with energy storage systems to provide power supply during periods of bad weather or nighttime. Each mini-grid system will be paired with a battery storage systems of between 445 and 1,130 kWh. Interested developers must apply on or before May 4th, 2021. Companies must be capable of deploying a year-round operational system.
The hybrid solar mini-grids deployment is part of the second phase of the Renewable Energy for Rural Development (RERD2) project. The project is a joint initiative from the Mozambican government and Enabel aimed at accelerating the rate of electrification in Mozambique, especially as the country targets universal electricity access by 2030.
