- Eneco’s green hydrogen plant set for Rotterdam port.
- Facility to use renewable energy for electrolysis, producing green hydrogen.
Dutch energy firm Eneco aims to build a hydrogen plant in Rotterdam solely on renewable energy. The company filed its application for an electrolyser, a facility that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity.
Current hydrogen plants emit large CO2 amounts by running on natural gas. Emission-free green hydrogen is crucial for the energy shift; the Dutch government targets 4 gigawatts of production by 2030. The construction of the green hydrogen plant starts in 2026, with expected operation by 2029. The electrolyser’s capacity will reach 800 megawatts, powered by renewable sources like solar and wind.
