Enel Green Power, an Italian independent power producer, spearheads a transformative project in South Africa. The company is establishing three wind farms with a combined capacity of 330 MW to decarbonise the Secunda industrial complex.
To power the world’s largest oxygen plant at the Secunda site. These wind farms will become operational by 2026, supplying electricity to 16 air separation units operated by Air Liquide in Mpumalanga province.
Enel has secured an agreement with South African utility Eskom for grid transit. They are emphasising its commitment to community values.
This initiative aligns with Air Liquide and Sasol’s vision to decarbonise Secunda, with a recent call for tenders inviting bids for 600 MW of renewable energy. Alongside Enel, TotalEnergies and Mulilo Energy Holdings will contribute 260 MW of clean electricity through wind and solar projects.
These efforts signify a significant step towards a greener industrial landscape in South Africa.
