Enel Green Power has launched a new programme to increase clean energy installation among electricity consumers in Italy. The “Scelta Rinnovabile” (Renewable Choice) programme is an online crowdfunding initiative that enables consumers to invest in clean energy projects in Italy. The programme aims to involve local communities that would host the power plants directly. People who take part in the programme would receive financial returns over the lifetime of the power plant.
Enel is set to pilot this financing initiative to develop a solar PV plant located in Poggio Renatico, in the province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna. The 17MW plant will help reduce carbon emissions by 11,000 tons and supply electricity to over 8,300 families. Residents in the Municipality of Poggio Renatico will be exclusively granted two weeks to participate in the crowdfunding campaign with a higher ROI. Following this exclusive period, all Italian citizens interested in taking part in the project can subsequently take part. Investment ranges from €100 up to €5,000, with a gross annual return of 5.5 per cent for residents and 4.5 per cent for non-residents.
Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power, stated of the programme, “With Scelta Rinnovabile, we want to encourage local communities and areas to play a real and active role in the energy transition, fostering people’s awareness of their role as leaders of the change towards a sustainable model”.
