Air Liquide Large Industries South Africa and Sasol South Africa will get 220 MW of wind energy from projects that Enel Green Power (EGP) announced on Tuesday will be operational by 2025.
Wheeling will be used to bring clean electricity to Sasol’s Secunda plant under two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the renewables division of Italian electric utility Enel SpA. Air Liquide runs the world’s largest factory for the manufacture of oxygen in Secunda. EGP stated that regulatory and financial approvals are necessary for the transaction.
The two wind projects involved in the PPAs are situated in the Eastern Cape and are anticipated to produce more than 800 GWh annually. Special purpose vehicles (SPVs) devoted to each wind park will be used to carry out the wind plans. In South Africa, EGP now has a portfolio of more than 1.2 GW of renewable energy.
