- Enel Power has launched commercial operations at its Garob wind farm in South Africa.
- The facility will provide 145MW to the Eskom power grid.
Italian Independent Power Producer (IPP) Enel Green Power has announced the commission of its Garob wind farm in South Africa. The wind farm begins commercial operation near the capital of Coppertone, in the local municipality of Siyathemba, Northern Cape Province.
It consists of 46 wind turbines supplied, installed, and operated by the German company Nordex. The installation has a capacity of 145MW.
According to Enel, the Garob wind farm can produce 573GWh per year. The electricity will be sold to Eskom for 20 years. The commissioning of this wind farm supports the energy transition in South Africa. Enel estimates that its wind farm will avoid the emission of 600,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.
With this installation, Enel Green Power now has ten operational wind farms in five provinces of South Africa.
