- Enel Peru will supply 70MW of renewable power to the Peruvian steel and iron company.
A subsidiary of Enel SpA, the Italian Utility group, Enel Peru, will supply 70MW of renewable power to the Peruvian steel and iron company SIDERPERU for its home operations. Both companies have agreed to a 12-year agreement that will see Enel Peru generate electricity from its hydroelectric plants and wind and solar farms in the country to meet the terms of the contract.
Enel’s 177 MW expansion of the existing Wayra wind farm will supply a part of the electricity. Its 122.59 MW Clemesi solar farm will also supply a part. The two power plants are set to commence operations in 2023. For the entire contract period, SIDERPERU will be given I-REC certificates, confirming that its power supply is from renewable sources, said Enel Peru. As part of the agreement, Enex X will also construct a 500 kWp solar plant for self-consumption at SIDERPERU’s steel complex in Chimbote.
