- Enel wins approval for a hybrid project in New South Wales.
- Once operational, the solar-storage park will be able to provide electricity annually to over 45,000 houses in the area.
A hybrid project in Australia’s New South Wales state expected to include 96 MW of solar power and 20 MW of battery storage capacity has received grid-connection permission from Italy’s Enel Green Power.
The Italian energy company announced that the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) had granted the licence and that this would be its “very first” hybrid solar-plus-storage project there.
Construction on the facility, located in the Central West and Orana Region of the Australian state, is expected to start in the middle of this year. Enel clarified that rather than having two different connection sites nearby, the point of connection to the electrical grid would be shared under a single Generator Performance Standard (GPS).
Once operational, the solar-storage park will be able to provide electricity annually to over 45,000 houses in the area.
Enel SpA, an Italian utility, has 310 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity operating in Australia, including the majority-owned Bungala 1 and 2 parks in South Australia, which have a combined total of 275.2 MW. Additionally, the company is creating a 93-MW solar project in Victoria and a 75.6-MW wind project in Western Australia.
