Energy Experts Supports Nigeria’s Energy Landscape Reforms

  • The President of the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) emphasised that renewable energy has become a central focus on a global level.
  • Mr Ralph Gbobo, the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas, stated that the theme highlighted the ongoing global transformation in the energy sector.

Renewable energy experts have pledged their support for the significant transformation of the renewable energy sector, recognising its essential role in Nigeria’s energy landscape. They expressed their views during the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) Renewable Energy event in Lagos, which had the theme “Renewable Energy: Innovation, Transition, Opportunities, and Challenges.”

Mr Ralph Gbobo, Managing Director of Shell, stressed the importance of shifting to renewable energy sources to address climate change challenges and establish sustainable energy systems for the future. Gbobo emphasised the need for a sustainable future, including exploring, developing, and utilising renewable energy sources. He also underscored the significance of collaboration between the private sector, government agencies, and academia to overcome the challenges in transitioning to renewable energy.

The MD noted that gas remains a transitional fuel as Nigeria moves toward a renewable energy era. He emphasised that while recognising the importance of gas, Nigeria must also acknowledge its obstacles to a renewable energy future.

Mrs Folake Soetan, the CEO of Ikeja Electric, noted that the opportunities in renewable energy are substantial and have significant economic and environmental potential. She mentioned that Nigeria possesses abundant resources for renewable energy generation and that her company is actively exploring partnerships to promote renewable energy projects.

On her part, Mrs Caroline Eboumbou emphasised the need for increased awareness to encourage the adoption of renewable energy among Nigerians. Mr Raymond Akintayo, the Group Managing Director of Cabota Group, stresses the importance of reducing fossil fuel use and transitioning to renewable energy for a cleaner environment.
