Energy Trio Collaborates to Develop Integrated Green Hydrogen Facility in Queensland

- A final investment decision on the project is seen to be taken late in 2024 or early 2025.
CS Energy, a Queensland government-owned utility, the Aussie arm of Japanese oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd and developer Energy Estate have now combined efforts to develop an integrated green hydrogen and ammonia production and export facility in Queensland.
The three companies will be partners in the HyNQ – North Queensland Energy Project that Energy Estate put forward in 2020. Energy Estate plans to construct a plant to produce green hydrogen and ammonia at the Port of Abbot Point near Bowen, North Queensland. The scheme will utilise existing port, road and rail infrastructure, as well as available transmission infrastructure facilities.
With help from Idemitsu Australia and CS Energy, Energy Estate will go forward with the feasibility study for the project. Current preliminary front-end engineering and design (FEED) activities will be funded by the consortium, with expectations that they can complete them in the third quarter of 2023. Provided a positive outcome is achieved, the FEED phase will be activated. A final investment decision on the project is seen to be taken late in 2024 or early 2025.
Hydrogen and ammonia production is expected to be launched in 2027/2028.
