Engie, a French energy company, announced on Thursday its possession of a 50-MW battery energy storage project in Scotland’s South Lanarkshire. The projects’ clean energy developers include Scotland-based Intelligent Land Investments Group (ILI Group) and its joint venture partners Yoo Energy and Abbey Group. The South Lanarkshire Council planning committee cleared the Plans for the development in August.
The project’s construction schedule and expected commissioning of the proposed battery facility at Cathkin near East Kilbride, southern Scotland, are not provided.
Aidan Connolly, Engie’s Head of Battery Storage UK, said, “For Engie, the acquisition is part of the group’s plan to expand its fleet of flexible generation capacity in the UK”.
