ENGIE Energy Access (Africa) has just announced the commissioning of a solar hybrid mini-grid in the Gbangba community in Niger state. According to locals, the community had not received electricity in ages. The 90kWp Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid was deployed under the Rural Electrification Agency’s Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP). This is the company’s first mini-grid deployed in the country, with plans to deploy hundreds more following its deal with the REA.
The mini-grid was commissioned by Hon. Mamman Musa, the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, representing the Executive Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Sani Bello. Other dignitaries present included the Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Her Excellency, Mrs Emmanuelle Blatmann and the Global CEO of Engie Energy Access Gillian-Alexandre Huart, and Managing Director, Bankole Cardoso.
