- The Filatex group based in Tananarive, Madagascar, and Hyvity, a hydropower producer based in Paris, France.
- The two partners want to develop several hydroelectric projects, the first of which is expected to enter the commercial exploitation phase.
The Paris, France-based Hyvity and the Tananarive, Madagascar-based Filatex Group collaborate to boost Madagascar’s renewable energy The joint venture ENHY is being established by the two partners. Together with the appropriate government agencies, such as the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEH) and Jiro Sy Rano Malagasy (JIRAMA), the organization in charge of providing public power supply in Madagascar, they want to develop a number of hydroelectric projects.
Each year, Hyvity and Filatex want to construct two hydropower projects at least. According to Hyvity, two projects are already being considered for the Antsirabe region in the country’s center, with a combined capacity of 20 MW by 2026.
According to Hyvity, the collaboration with Filatex is a component of Plan Emergence Madagascar, an initiative backed by the government of this country in East Africa that intends to boost hydroelectricity’s proportion in Madagascar’s electricity mix to 75%.
According to Power Africa, the island now has an installed capacity of 969 MW, only 18% of which is generated by hydroelectric power plants. However, the Economic Development Agency of Madagascar estimates the nation’s hydropower potential to be 7,800 MW (EDBM).
Only 2% of this potential has been used up to this point. Over 800 hydroelectric facilities across the nation, with capacities ranging from 10 kW to 600 MW, have been identified as having significant untapped potential.
