The largest expansion of renewable energy in Louisiana history, Entergy Louisiana LLC, a subsidiary of US utility Entergy Corp, has petitioned authorities for permission to add 3 GW of solar to its generation resources.
On Thursday, the company announced that it had submitted the request to the Louisiana Public Service Commission on March 13. This means that 3,225 MW of solar are in line for possible construction, development, and addition to the grid through agreements with Entergy Louisiana, it was stated, in addition to the nearly 225 MW of solar resources that the utility previously sought.
There are now just 280 MW of renewable resources available to Entergy Louisiana. The percentage of carbon-free resources in its portfolio, including nuclear generation, is over 25%.
The planned new solar capacity in Louisiana is in line with Entergy Corp’s objective to have 15 GW to 17 GW of renewable resources by the end of 2031.
