ERG Powers Up Salemi-Castelvetrano Wind Farm

  • ERG completed the upgrade of the Salemi-Castelvetrano wind farm, increasing its capacity to 75.6 MW with 18 new Vestas turbines.
  • The farm now generates 208 GWh annually, powering 41,000 households and reducing CO2 emissions by 74 kilotons annually.
  • Backed by a 20-year Contract for Difference (CfD), the project aligns with ERG’s strategy to expand its European renewable energy portfolio.

ERG, a top renewable energy company, has upgraded its Salemi-Castelvetrano wind farm in Sicily, boosting capacity to 75.6 MW. This project strengthens the company’s role in driving the energy transition. The farm in Trapani now generates 208 GWh of electricity annually, up from 50 GWh.

ERG replaced 30 outdated 850 kW turbines with 18 new Vestas turbines, each with a 4.2 MW capacity. The upgrade increased the farm’s capacity from 25.5 MW to 75.6 MW. This higher output now powers 41,000 households annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 74 kilotons annually.

The project uses a 20-year Contract for Difference (CfD), which secures stable revenues for ERG. This financial strategy ensures long-term investment in clean energy while helping reduce carbon emissions in line with Europe’s climate goals.

ERG’s CEO, Paolo Merli, highlighted that this wind farm modernisation marks its fourth in Italy, adding 270 MW to its overall capacity. He stated that ERG plans to continue growing its project pipeline in Italy, France, and Germany under its 2024-2026 industrial plan.

With its “Value over Volume” strategy, ERG focuses on increasing efficiency at existing sites rather than rapid expansion. By modernising older facilities, the company enhances productivity and meets rising energy demand with sustainable solutions.

ERG adopted advanced Vestas turbines at the Salemi-Castelvetrano farm to maximise its performance. The company continues to prioritise cutting-edge technology to drive forward the energy transition.

Through its wind power projects, ERG supports the global shift toward renewable energy and carbon reduction. By increasing its clean energy capacity, the company helps combat climate change. The Salemi-Castelvetrano upgrade adds more renewable electricity to the grid, further supporting these efforts.

ERG’s upgrade of the Salemi-Castelvetrano wind farm reflects its commitment to sustainable growth. The project strengthens its position as a leader in renewable energy while contributing to global efforts to reduce emissions and achieve a cleaner energy future.
