Ethiopia has earned 47.5 million US dollars from energy exports in the first six months of the current 2023/2024 Ethiopian fiscal year that started July 8, according to the state utility firm Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).
The EEP said in a press release that the East African country made the earnings by selling electricity to Djibouti, Kenya, and Sudan. The EEP stated that there are plans to sell electricity to another East African country, Tanzania, soon.
Ethiopia earned 102 million dollars from energy exports in the 2022/2023 fiscal year. Energy export is part of Ethiopia’s broader plan to integrate the East African region economically through electricity infrastructure.
The Ethiopian government has recently announced its plan to increase the country’s export revenue from electric power to 400 million dollars within ten years.
