ETHIOPIA: Ethiopia Earns $90 Million in Electricity Exports in 2020

The Ethiopia Electric Power (EEP) has announced the revenues for the fiscal year 2020. The Communications Director, Moge Mekonen, stated that the company made the highest revenues from electricity exports. The country made $90.5 million in export revenues in 2021, Mekonen disclosed. The revenues exceeded the projected revenues for the 2020 fiscal year.

The EEP has also announced plans to export more electricity to neighbouring East African countries. The EEP has also disclosed the plans to sell an additional 1,000MW to South Sudan.

Ethiopia is working towards increasing its electricity generating capacity from the current 4,200 MW to around 35,000 MW by 2037.
