- EU expects the survey to generate accurate and comprehensive data on energy consumption and demand nationwide.
The European Union is supporting the Federal Government in executing the Nigeria Residential Sector Demand-Side Survey. The exercise will survey about 5,400 households across the country’s six geopolitical zones. This aims to help the government formulate and implement functional energy policies and is part of the EU’s efforts to assess and address Nigeria’s energy needs. The survey, which will be conducted in the framework of the EU’s Global Gateway Initiative, is the brainchild of the EU and the International Energy Agency in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Power, the Energy Commission of Nigeria and the National Bureau of Statistics.
The energy demand survey aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the broader aspirations of Nigeria, particularly the 8-point agenda of the current administration. A statement released by the EU on Friday in Abuja stated that it expects the survey to generate accurate and comprehensive data on energy consumption and demand nationwide. This includes the rural and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring unhindered access to energy to power industries, fuel transportation, and illuminate homes.
According to the statement, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, during the official launch of the survey in Abuja, assured Nigerians, development partners and the private sector of the Bola Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to giving reliable, uninterrupted, stable, and functional electricity to households, businesses, and industries. Adelabu stressed that providing reliable energy to citizens remains the only way to realise the potential of the country’s abundant human and natural resources.
