According to Director General of the Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (NEAR) Gert-Jan Koopman, the European Union and Tunisia have a “win-win” partnership, and the EU is eager to increase bilateral cooperation in the area of green hydrogen.
At a meeting with Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Neila Gonji, he said, “The specialized personnel, particularly engineers and executives, must be trained and supported in the numerous specializations of the Industry Department.
The meeting provided the chance to discuss opportunities for cooperation and partnership with the EU, particularly in the sectors of Electric power transmission, energy, and renewable energy, as well as the state of progress of the electricity interconnection project between Tunisia and Italy. EU Ambassador to Tunisia Marcus Cornaro also attended the meeting.
Gonji, for her part, emphasized the strength of relations between Tunisia and Europe as well as the accessibility of the energy and technological infrastructure required for the completion of significant projects in Tunisia, particularly in the fields of electrical power transmission and renewable energy generation.
The minister reviewed the national renewable energy development program, which aims to generate 35% of the nation’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030. He also mentioned that the ministry had issued a request for proposals for the production of 1,700 megawatts of solar photovoltaic electricity under concessions.
