- Nigeria’s EU delegates and ECOWAS deliberated the country’s renewable energy plans.
The European Union (EU) has affirmed its support for diversifying Nigeria’s energy sector through investments in renewable energy. According to the People’s Gazette, the EU delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS had an interview in Abuja on Tuesday.
Inga Stefanowicz, the Team Lead of EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS on Green and Digital Economy, noted that the organisation has successfully tackled perceived challenges in the energy sector, adding that more will be done to improve it. “We have managed to overcome whatever challenges; we can do better on access to finances when it comes to industries, such as solar power. “We are planning to help Nigeria expand its diversifying form of energy such as hydro, wind and bio, and we will take a look at a secular economy model, Inga said.”
She noted, “the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) is our flagship initiative co-founded by Germany. We have significant intervention regarding access to finance in the energy sector, with the French developing finance agency, through Nigerian commercial banks; we are dedicated to the intervention.”
According to the report, The RE and EE Alliance, in collaboration with the NESP, is carrying out the expansion with the Federal Ministry of Power.
